How to make a Web shooter at Home | Spider-Man Web Shooter

What's up, guys? I am Shubh Rajput, welcome to techwic.com. So, today we are going to see how to make a Web shooter. Now, Marvel fans, get ready because it's time for some DIY. Alright, let's get started, and let's see how to make a Web shooter at home.

How does it work?

To make the web shooter, the first thing I will make is the shooting mechanism for which I will use this. I have these 2 pens. One is a mini sketch pen and the second is this ballpoint pen.

Our shooting gun will be made out of this mini sketch pen. I will make the nozzle using this and the gun will be spring powered. So, we will remove the spring from the ballpoint pen which will give power to our gun.

How to make it?

hollow tube

First and foremost, we will take this sketch pen to make the nozzle of our gun. So, for this, I need the hollow tube from this mini sketch pen. So, let's separate the remaining parts. I have emptied out the pen's tube.

Stick spring on back cap

Now, I will take the “Back cap” portion. We will stick the spring from the ballpoint pen on to this. So, let's remove the spring from a ballpoint pen. We have our spring, so we will attach it to the pen.

I will use a hot glue gun to stick the spring. Only a small drop. We will stick the spring on top of this. Let's connect the nozzle back with this. Our spring-powered gun is ready. Now, you can load the bullets in it from the front direction and the spring will shoot it towards the front.

Cut the front

But the front end here is quite small, it is very narrow because a nib was in here. So, I will cut this a little so it widens a bit. That way it will be easy to load a bullet in this. Let's cut this. I will give it a clean cut with an X-ACTO knife. We now have a wide opening for our bullets.

(You can even roll paper in this manner to make your gun's nozzle or tube if you don't have an old sketch pen)

Making bullets

Now, let me show you how to make the bullets, with which we will shoot the web. I am taking a small piece of paper to make the bullet and we will roll it with the help of a ballpoint pen. So, this tightly rolled paper tube will become our bullet. Let's try loading it. So, it is easily sliding into the nozzle.

So, this is fine. Let's stick this, to get our bullet ready. I am using white glue to stick this. I am coating the extra glue on top of the paper so it gets some strength. We will leave it for drying now. Later we will shoot it to see how our gun works.

Okay, so the bullet is dry and ready. Now, we put it in the gun's nozzle. We will press this to see if it shoots. Wow! This spring-powered gun works very well.

Adding Web or string

Now I will add a web, that is to say, a string to the bullets so that when I shoot a string or a web will come out of this, towards the front. And instead of shooting with the finger, I will add a trigger. So, it becomes easy to shoot. Our gun, our shooting mechanism is ready. We have to convert this into a web shooter now.

How does it work?

You must have noticed that a web shooter is attached to the wrist. When you press the trigger it releases a web. So, we will make a similar web shooter. Almost like a wristwatch, it will have a base to which our shooting mechanism will be attached. We will have a band, so that we may wear it like a watch.

Making the band

I will make that using cardboard. I have cut a rectangular piece 2 inches by 8 inches in size. This will be my band, which I will wear around my wrist to wear the web shooter. And then other cardboard of smaller size will be our base, on top of which I will stick our shooter.

You can design the base in any shape. Be it circular, triangular, or square. I cut it in this shape because when it is ready I will add a spider logo on it. That way our web shooter will look pretty good.

Hiding shooter

To completely hide this shooting mechanism I've cut some more pieces of cardboard. I will stick these on top of it. Basically, I will sandwich this inside these pieces to cover it completely. So, let's do that.

Cleaning edges

So, this piece is ready. The edges don't look very clean but I have a simple solution for that. I will show you how to cover it. I cut a thin strip of cardboard here. You just have to peel it in this manner. After separating it, we will leave out corrugated part. We will use the cover to clean our edges. I will stick it in this manner on top of the edges to cover it. Looks pretty neat, right? I am covering it completely.

Making hole

Once it is stuck, I will make a hole here. I will make an opening for the web shooter. Let's cut the extra bit. This is done. Let's make a hole. Alright, our hole is ready, as you can see. Let's load a bullet to check it. Perfect! how easily the bullet is going in. So, this piece is ready.

Sticking to the band

We will stick it to the band. We have our band here. We will stick it in the exact center. But first, we will get the band ready. I have cut some strips on the underside of the band. But that is optional. I did it so it would roll easily. As this is cardboard, it rolls very easily.

Locking on wrist

Now, we have to figure out how to lock this on our wrist. The simple solution is Velcro. I will use this Velcro and stick it to our band, so that we can easily wear the band. Let's stick to this. I will use a hot glue gun to stick it. Alright, this is stuck with the help of a hot glue gun but I will staple it on the sides to give it extra strength. So, our band is ready.

Sticking shooter on band

We will stick this piece to the band, right in the center. And you will notice I am aligning it with the edge so we get some area in the front where we will add a trigger. Let's stick to this. Again I am using a hot glue gun to stick this. Okay, so this is ready.

Adding trigger

Now, I will add a trigger in the front portion which will allow us to shoot the bullets or the web. For that, I will use these. These are ice-cream sticks and I will make a trigger with these but you have to prepare this like I have done over here. It is a slightly lengthy process but it is not difficult.

Preparing sticks

What you need to do is dip the ice-cream sticks in water and when the wood softens you bend it in any shape to prepare it. Once it dries it retains its shape. In fact, this is how most of the bamboo and cane furniture is made.

So, I dipped the ice-cream stick in the water. I folded it and put a rubber band around it. And when I removed the rubber band this is the shape I got. Almost like an 'S' shape. So, this will be our trigger. I'll show you how.

We will fit this over here in this manner. And when I press this our web will shoot out of here.

Cut the stick

Firstly, I will cut off the front part of the ice-cream stick as it is curved. I am putting this off so we get a clean straight edge. I will simply cut this off with a cutter. Alright, we now have a straight edge.

Make movable joint

The next thing we do is take this trigger and place it on your hand to see what its correct position is. This here is my correct position. So, we must place this side over here in the gap in the shooter and make a marking slightly on the inside. Again we cut this portion.

Alright. as you can see, I have cut it over here. We have to make this into a movable joint. If you wish you can cut it all the way and then stick it with tape so that this piece moves in this fashion. I cut it slightly from the top so it becomes like a hinge and moves in this manner.

stick a tape

Now, I will stick a double-sided tape at the back of the cut on the stick. Okay, that's done. I have a movable joint over here. The tape gives it extra strength. I have used extra strong double-sided tape over here but you can use regular tape as well.

Sticking the trigger

Now, we will stick this to our web shooter. I will apply glue on the movable portion over here and stick it to our web shooter. So, we have our trigger. Our web shooter looks like this.

Making lock for bullets

Now, I will put a small lock for the bullets. I will make the lockout of this small piece which we cut off from the ice-cream stick at first and stick it here in this manner. So, it keeps the bullet inside and when the trigger is down, the hole will open and the bullet will come out. So, let's stick this in place. And with our lock in place, our web shooter is ready.

I think I should paint it now and give it a more impressive look. So, let's do that. I am using an acrylic color to paint it. Since we have cardboard, acrylic color will work well on it. Alright, I have done it. I have painted it black and acrylic colors dry pretty quickly. You can see it has a nice glossy finish and it has dried. So, this is done.

Adding spider logo

Now, I will add our spider logo on top of it as I mentioned before. I cut this logo out from a foam sheet. You can avail of a foam sheet at a stationery store or you could use an old shoe insole and you can cut this out of it. If you don't have a foam sheet, you can even cut it out of paper or paint it on directly, but this gives it a 3D look, which I love.

As you can see, it looks pretty cool. Let's stick to this. I am using white glue to stick it. Alright. Our spider logo is stuck. Look at that. Looks pretty awesome. I'm very happy with this. The web shooter is ready.

Making web

Now, let's make our web and bullet. Let's do that. Now I will use this string to make the web. I will take a long piece of string and attach our bullet to one end of it. We pass the thread through the bulletin and stick it on with sticky tape to the end of it. Now, I will tie the other end of it to the trigger.

Load the thread

All we need to do now is to load the thread in the bullet. I will load it with the help of a toothpick. It is slightly tricky. Next, you load the bullet into the web shooter. You lock the trigger and we are good to go. Now let's shoot. Whoa!

So, this is how to make a Web shooter. I really hope you guys enjoyed watching this post and found this tutorial helpful. If you liked it, please share it with your friends and you must let me know in the comments
